Hypnosis has been widely used on TV for entertainment, and although capable of creating some good laughs, its main application is towards helping people with psychological conditions such as traumas, addictions and fears. For many it is still considered a myth but for others it has changed their lives. Weather you believe in hypnosis or not is what makes the difference as it only works with the patient’s agreement. With that in mind, one needs to agree that hypnosis cannot hurt anyone without their approval.

Self hypnotism and conversational hypnotism are two methods that all beginners should master before trying more complicated ones. It is extremely important for you, the beginner, to first understand yourself the simple stages of hypnosis. You can easily achieve this by being hypnotized yourself. By using sophisticated techniques without first mastering the basics, you’ll be frustrated with your results and feel that you’re not getting anywhere.

Self Hypnotic Trance

The only way for you to fully understand hypnotism is to experience it, that’s why self hypnotism is the best way to master the basics of hypnosis. By trying on yourself the various hypnosis approaches, you can learn the different stages of relaxation and hypnotic trance. It is a very common practice among experienced practitioners to perform self hypnosis so make sure you try it out before attempting to hypnotize one of your friends or family members.

All you have to do once you find yourself in the hypnotic trance is to suggest ideas into your mind to alter negative behaviors you may have. You could for example use hypnosis to help you stop smoking, lose the fear of heights and even to help you lose weight or get motivated. The applications are infinite, all you need is imagination.

Conversational Unconscious Suggestions

After you master self hypnosis, you can dive into conversational hypnotism and practice it with your friends, family and even strangers. All you need to do is to learn how to send suggestions to the mind of the person interacting with you using normal conversation techniques. You can use this type of hypnotism to make the person feel more secure around you and even to have him/her tell you secrets that otherwise he/she would not be whiling to.

Remember to master self hypnotism and conversational hypnosis before trying more sophisticated hypnotic approaches. The only way for you to become the good hypnotherapist you aspire to be is to master the basics first.

Self-hypnosis technique is the ability to hypnotize oneself. This is a invaluable tool for anyone to possess but few in reality are the masters in this technique. In our school (ISI-CNV of dr. Paret) we have developed many new methods for doing in very simple ways. In part this is derived from our studies on instant gaze hypnosis (the same that applied the 1800 hypnotist Donato and Prof. Di Pisa to fascinate people without even speaking). What you will find here is not the mainstream system. Yet is very powerful. Who possesses the powerful knowledge of self-hypnosis will face and win any stressful situations. Person having skill in self-hypnosis technique is also well equipped for self-discovery and creative insights and entering in better communication with his unconscious mind.

The practice and use of self-hypnosis dates back from the Egyptians and the Greeks. We delve in this depth to create our new powerful hypnotic method for putting new ideas in our subconscious. But what is self hypnosis?

An hypnotized subject is in a peculiar trance. Scientists have found that a hypnotized person’s brain waves actually resemble patterns of deep relaxation. They are in a state of intense, concentrated focus with little or no regard to any external stimulation. This relaxation state allows the mind not only to successfully concentrate on positive suggestions made to it but also to find new creative neuronal pathways. The mind is open. But in reality, through the use of some simple tools that we will describe it is not necessary to go to a deep trance to achieve the most powerful and incredible results. Because in reality what is needed is not a deep trance, it is a specific trance.

How can a person practice a basic self hypnosis?

There are a variety of postures conducive to hypnosis, though the beginner are advised to sit in a symmetrical position in a straight back chair, taking special note to maintain a straight elongated spine. After taking seat in the correct posture, take several deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth. Stare a light (max 75 watt a common light bulb is ok) at about 5 feet of distance and mentally repeat relax. This is a powerful hint that I give you here, and it is based on our researches and thousands of experiments. The white light activates the visual cortex at its maximum peak. The mind will therefore be ready to enter in a new state when you close your eyes. And, after 30 seconds that you perform this exercise, close your eyes. At this point, if you need physical relaxation, as you breath out mentally you can repeat a simple phrase like, I am feeling relaxed, my body is limp and continue this cycle of breathing and speaking for several seconds, until you are comfortable, warm and relaxed. But what it is important if you want real power in your mind is that you look at the remaining light image under your closed eyes and observe the many patterns arising. Tune yourself to your body.

This self-hypnosis technique will make your body completely limp and relaxed and your mind empty. Your brainwaves will change. At this point you will notice that the light trace remaining under your eyes will become black. This is the sign of the deepest state. You may begin to let yourself visualize in this black. You could think of the face of a loved one, the picture of a particular object, or what you want to achieve or even see some solutions to a subject that has been troubling you. Try to see it in your mind’s eye. See the color, dimensions, and features of your idea. This process could last even for three to ten minutes, and upon completion you will remember a lot of the images, but not all, and the order in which they followed. At this point open your eyes, tell your body to come out from the trance.

If your goal is that this process continues by itself, do something else and don’t think anymore to what have done.

Otherwise, for personal growth, proceed to reflect upon the pictures that you saw. There is always an underlying theme to the images, and a conscious examining of them will yield an insight into your true feelings concerning a particular subject. With this newly discovered insight, you may come to terms with an issue or transform it into a work of art, like poetry, prose, sculpture, or painting. The relaxing sensation that you feel should carry with you for the rest of the day, a sense that comes from sub-conscious revelation.

Another powerful way of doing self hypnosis in a symbolic yet powerful way is on our video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHSj9zEDu94 and other ways are exposed on our site http://www.mesmerismus.info where you can find also a free course .

Proper self-hypnosis technique is a safe and effective way for good positive changes in your life. You may prefer learning and doing self-hypnosis over working with a hypnotist or hypnotherapist.

This self-hypnosis technique if used properly has amazing power to help you succeed in stop smoking, losing weight, and to break any number of bad habits. Self-hypnosis can boost also self-confidence and self esteem. The right use of positive affirmations reinforces your mind. Note: When you quit smoking through self hypnosis it is you who have to do that by yourself and many time using self hypnosis you will find yourself doing it spontaneously.

When you’re first starting out with self hypnosis, as with anything, there are going to be some hiccups before you become completely proficient at the practice. Here are some of the most common mistakes beginners make with self hypnosis, so that you know what to avoid.

Not really believing that they can be hypnotized – Ask yourself: Do you believe you can be hypnotized? Do you actually want to be hypnotized? Do you want to do this to yourself? If those weren’t all genuine yeses, you will fail at self-hypnosis. And you will keep failing until you eliminate those mental blocks. A lot of people carry around such things, so you wouldn’t be alone… but then, a lot of people can’t self-hypnotize. And you obviously have an interest in that, or you wouldn’t be reading this article.

Wanting a quick fix and instant results – Hypnosis is not a magic bullet. When doing anything new, there is a gradual process your mind must go through in order to believe that it will truly work. When learning a skill such as self-hypnosis, a lack of experience coupled with impatience equals all but guaranteed failure. So take your time, when dealing with your most potent and difficult-to-reach issues.

An inability to relax – Relaxing is actually hard work if you’re not used to it. A lot of people think that relaxation is just something one slides into, but a lot of people can’t even sit still long enough to watch a television program for half an hour or so. Every commercial break, they’re up getting a snack, going to the bathroom, walking in some random direction. To sustain a hypnotic state, one must be relaxed, which means a quiet mind and a quiet body. Meditation might be the hardest exercise most people ever do, but it is critical to learning self-hypnosis properly.

Being insufficiently prepared – Those who do not take the time to learn proper self-hypnosis, and thus consider it unworthy of preparation, are setting themselves up to fail. It’s also important to prepare your suggestions before you even start inducing self hypnosis. Whatever you do, don’t try to just make them up as you go along. Otherwise they won’t work very well.

Using ineffective hypnotic suggestions – Speaking of suggestions, there’s a saying in hacker culture that goes, “Garbage in, garbage out.” No matter how effectively you practice a bad idea, it is still a bad idea. Give yourself specific commands, and phrase your hypnotic suggestions carefully, so as to form them correctly and you will get results. Remember, your subconscious needs the right cues, if it’s going to change your behaviors.

Some people call it the ‘pits’ and some people call it the ‘blues’ and some call it ‘feeling down in the dumps’. But whatever you may call it, being depressed is a terrible feeling.

The most common types of depression are:

Major Depression, which is characterized by sadness, Insomnia, and a depressed appetite. Often when an individual is in a state of major depression, there is a complete lack of drive and motivation and the sufferer lacks the desire to participate in life. Some people are completely disabled by depression, and some may even contemplate suicide.

Dysthymia: This is a less severe type of long term depression that typically does not totally disable a person. But it prevents the person from feeling motivated and functioning at optimum levels. Sometimes people who are struggling with Dysthymia are also afflicted with Major Depression, and when this occurs it is called double depression.

Manic Depression is also known as Bipolar Disorder. This type of depression is less common than the first two. It involves phases of the manic state, alternated with the depressed state. This is often a long term recurring disorder. Sometimes the mood swings occur suddenly. But generally speaking, onset tends to be gradual.

There are numerous variations of depression; the types described here are only the most common.

Some symptoms of depression include:

Sadness; anxiety; pessimism; insomnia and sleep disorders; feelings of worthlessness; guilt; restlessness; pain; fatigue; weight loss; headaches; and thoughts of suicide.

Sources of Depression:

As previously stated, there are several types of depression: Major Depression; Manic Depression; and Dysthymia being three of the more common forms.

Many types of depression run in families. Living in a stressful environment can lead to depression. A traumatic experience such as relationship problems, financial trouble, or a serious loss can also precipitate a depression.

Women are twice as likely to suffer from depression as men are, but scientists do not know why.

If you suffer from depression, you will want to seek the advice of your physician. He may prescribe medication for you. But you should keep in mind that every drug has side effects.

Wouldn’t it be phenomenal if you could control and eliminate your depression just by thinking certain thoughts? I know that this sounds too good to be true, but quite frequently, various types of depression are simply caused by thinking negative thoughts.

Don’t believe me? Then try it out! It’s really quite basic and simple. Just imagine something that you feel is very troubling or sad. Go ahead, think about it right now! Then return to this article.

What happened? If you truly focused and visualized the sad situation, you began to feel sad and a little depressed. The longer you allow yourself to remain in that thought pattern, the sadder you will feel. As you stay in sad thoughts and keep feeling sadder, you lead yourself into a gradually intensifying depression.

The good news is that if you think about a happy memory, then you will displace that depression and sadness and have happy feelings instead.

Please pay careful attention now, because here are the keys to eliminating your depression: Our most persistent thoughts emerge from the unconscious mind. These are the thoughts that we find ourselves automatically thinking about during the day.

If the persistent thoughts that keep recurring in your mind are about your problems or sad experiences, then you raise your levels of anxiety, stress, and depression.

But here is the ‘Light at the end of the tunnel’: Since hypnosis is a tool that we can use to alter our unconscious thoughts, NLP and self hypnosis stress management programs will rapidly alter the way that you think, feel, and behave. The good thing is that the same exact techniques that work for stress management also work as well for eliminating depression!

Listen to me now, because I will tell you exactly how and why it’s going to happen. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind. Actually, it’s the Alpha state of consciousness. We pass through the Alpha state as we fall asleep at night. And we pass through it again as we wake up from sleeping. We also enter the Alpha state when we are imagining and daydreaming.

The unconscious mind is the seat of our emotions, and it’s like a computer; the input controls the output! Hypnotherapy is a wonderful tool for reaching directly into the unconscious mind and reprogramming it to automatically divert you from negative thought patterns, and promote positive thinking. It’s a tool that allows you to bypass the consciousness to create positive expectations, which will in turn create positive feelings. You can beat your depression through using hypnosis therapy.
